But upon researching the where about of this town, I couldn't find it actually existing, least not on any recent maps. However, one source claims that Gladstaines was a village of Edinburgh now swallowed up by the expanding population of the city. So far the sake of having an idea of where John was born I give Edinburgh as his birthplace.

George Washington Taylor is buried in Old Vidalia Cemetery. He fought in the Civil War. And received a Civil War Southern Cross, which is awarded to Confederate veterans returning home from the War.

Mr. J.M. Taylor of Toombs County was shot and killed on the Cedar Crossing road near Vidalia on Thursday morning. He was passing Joe Nunn, both being in buggies, when Nunn opened fire with a pistol, shooting five times, all the shots hitting Taylor. There had been some dispute between the men before over a land line tree, but it seems that Nunn began shooting without any words. Taylor died the next morning. Nunn is an Uncle of Taylor by marriage.

Mel Taylor formerly resided here, and was deputy sheriff under Mr. A.J. Burch. He was very popular as a man and officer, and had many friends in this county.

After being put under arrest, Nunn inquired if Taylor was dead, saying he had tried hard enough to kill him. Mr. Taylor married the daughter of Mr. George McLeod, his wife and several children surviving him

WOMAN BURNED TO DEATH

News was received here last Friday of the fatal burning of Mrs. Catherine Taylor at her home near Vidalia Thursday last. She died Friday morning.

Her clothing caught fire and no one being present she ran out into the field and fell exhausted. Her cries for help were heard by neighbors, who ran to her assistance. She was 51 years of age and leaves six children.

She was a daughter of the late Duncan Hughes, who passed away July 4th of last year, and she leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn her sad death.

      John Taylor was said to have been a person that liked to have parties and invite the entire county over to eat. They played instruments and had a good time, he was quite a drinker and was said to have died when he tried to jump a fence on a horse and it broke his neck.
